India to Host WTSA 2024 and IMC 2024: Driving Telecom Innovation

India is ready to host the prestigious World Telecommunications Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024, Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in conjunction with the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024. The objective of these events is to promote global cooperation, promote telecom reforms and showcase India’s technological prowess.

Spectrum Regulatory Sandbox (SRS) and Wireless Test Zone (WiTE Zone):

    • Introduction of guidelines for SRS to facilitate R&D activities and advance technological progress.
    • Establishment of WiTE zones in urban and remote areas for spectrum usage.
    • To promote innovation, eligibility has been extended to academia, R&D laboratories and telecom providers.

Abolition of Wireless Operating License (WoL):

    • Removal of WoL requirement for authorization of access services and VSAT operations to simplify licensing processes.
    • Complete abolition of WoL for licensees under Section 4 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 to reduce compliance burden and promote ease of doing business.

MoU with Ericsson

Ericsson Educate Programme:

    • Collaboration with Ericsson to enhance digital skills for students in universities with 5G use case labs.
    • The customized curriculum complements technical studies with practical knowledge on key technologies.
    • The aim is to train around 10,000 students in the next two years while promoting innovation in the telecom sector.
