Three traditional products of Tripura have recently received the coveted Geographical Indication (GI) tag. products are Matabari Pera Prasad, Rignai Pachara Clothing and Risa. With this, Tripura now has 4 GI protected products.

Matabari Pera Prasad: Sweet Prasad at Tripureshwari Temple

‘Matabari Pera Prasad’ is a sweet prasad at the famous Tripureshwari temple in Tripura. Made from milk and sugar, this dish is famous for its distinctive taste and deeply rooted cultural traditions.

With the increasing demand for peda among locals and visitors, companies have started marketing the product to customers around the world. Peda can now be ordered online as well as through Facebook and WhatsApp.

Rignai Pachra Textiles: Hand-woven garments with a rich heritage

Tripuri tribal women make all the clothes including Risa using loincloth loom. They create the most amazing and stylish designs using multicolored warp and weft threads on the loom.

Tripura’s Queen Pineapple: First recognized GI product

Apart from the recently recognized products, Tripura’s Queen Pineapple has already received the GI tag through the initiative of North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC). This nutrient-rich pineapple is one of the 13 fruits and vegetables from the Northeast that have been awarded the GI tag.
