In a surprising turn of events, the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish KumarA key player in the Grand Alliance (GA) government resigned from his post citing dissatisfaction with the progress of talks within the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance. (India). Kumar had led the formation of Bharat to counter the BJP, but expressed disappointment at the alliance’s lack of cooperation.
Less than 18 months after the formation of the GA government with the support of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Kumar, 72, parted ways with the alliance blaming slow development within the alliance. This is Kumar’s fourth significant political move in the last decade and the second during his current tenure.
- Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, seeking dissolution of the state government.
- The grand alliance formed after Kumar’s exit from the NDA in August 2022 suddenly broke down.
- In 243 member Bihar Assembly RJD has 79 seats, BJP has 78, JDU has 45, Congress has 19 seats. And others are contributing to the political landscape.
- With a strength of 127 MLAs, the NDA has crossed the grand alliance’s 116, securing a majority with one independent MLA.
