EAM Jaishankar Receives Book ‘India’s Nuclear Titans’

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar received a copy of the book ‘Nuclear giants of India’ edited by Soumya Awasthi and Shrabhana Barua. The book traces India’s evolution as a nuclear state by highlighting the important roles played by famous personalities Homi Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai, Abdul KalamAnd Of. subramaniamamong others.

Recognizing the contributions of the nuclear titans

On receiving the book, Jaishankar stressed the importance of recognizing the contributions of these nuclear veterans by the emerging generations. He expressed the importance of acknowledging his pioneering efforts in shaping India’s nuclear programme.

Kakrapar Atomic Power Station

In February 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) in Surat and dedicated to the nation two pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR), KAPS-3 and KAPS-4. Built by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), these projects have a cumulative capacity of 1400 MW and are the largest indigenous PHWRs in India.

Advanced Security Features

According to the official release, the KAPS-3 and KAPS-4 reactors are the first of their kind in India, with advanced safety features that are at par with the best in the world. These reactors were constructed at a cost of more than Rs. Rs 22,500 crore, demonstrating India’s commitment to develop safe and efficient nuclear power generation capabilities.
